Previous experience of installing on guest operating system on any host machines was quite easy. Thanks to VMware team and the difficulty level was then when I was using a private cloud-hypervisor provider. Not to mention there name but they were doing extraordinary job of establishing number of cluster across the public cloud provider like AWS and Google Cloud.
It has an extra-ordinary canvas distributed to connect routers, elastic-ip addressing, networks and several load balancing microservices.
Anyways, on a normal host machine, vmware tools is always pretty straight forward. In a cloud VM, I was no-where in a empty galaxy with no help. There comes the rescue time. I approached the xubuntu IRC channel and got quick start to find the dist-library repositories. Thanks to @Luyin and @Johnny for giving a patch-cache repo to search in the terminal.
There were numerous open-vmware tools which took me hard to select all and unpack every package. I did a google search to look out for vmware-tool-packages and I found an interesting video showing the procedure to install vmware-tools in a host machine with vmware-tools-dist-9.9 which came as a package with vmware-tool-manager.
But , the situation is I dont have a vmware-tool-manager in a cloud-platform like this. Hence I manually downloaded an upated patch version from the github repo. You could go and select which every looks find for your target operating system and I selected a 9.9 version.
In the ubuntu cloud VM, I have downloaded the vmware-tool patch and extracted the vmware-tools> linux.iso files.
Then I did the following procedure to install the vmware tool:-
cd Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
sudo ./vmare-install.pl -d
It does everything in the background with the dafault [yes] for everything. reboot the machine.
Whole and sole purpose to utilize the vmware-tools in cloud VM is to minimize the graphica properties issue like lazy mouse dragging, copy and paste text which runs on a nested virtualization technology. Its better if we have vmware tools installed in the guest VM.
